The New 'The Good Dinosaur' Trailer Highlights it's Beautiful Visuals

Learn how "A single kindness can change everything." in the new trailer for the upcoming feature film, The Good Dinosaur.

Pixar showcases once again how photo-real gorgeous their computer generated worlds can be while having a whimsical contrast with the caricatured characters that inhabit the movie. The mostly dialogue-free trailer with music by Of Monsters and Men presents the main Apatosaurus dino, Arlo (voiced by Raymond Ochoa), and his human boy companion, Spot (voiced by Jack Bright) as they bond and face hardships in wild animals and nature.

The Good Dinosaur is directed by Pixar veteran Peter Sohn, the director of short film Partly Cloudy and the voice of Emile from Ratatouille and Squishy from Monsters University. In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Sohn explains that “The heart of it has always remained the same in terms of the boy and the dog. I’ve been very diligent with the story team to kind of protect that and focus on that more. In terms of the world, it has kind of changed a bit here and there, and some of the characters have gone out and new ones have come in.” Other writers of the movie include Bob Peterson (co-director of Up) and Enrico Casarosa (director of La Luna). The music in the movie is composed by Mycahel Dynna (Life of Pi).

The movie's official synopsis reads: The Good Dinosaur asks the generations-old question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? In theaters November 25, 2015, the film is a humorous and exciting original story about Arlo, a lively Apatosaurus with a big heart. After a traumatic event unsettles Arlo’s family, he sets out on a remarkable journey, gaining an unlikely companion along the way - a human boy. The Good Dinosaur is an extraordinary journey of self-discovery full of thrilling adventure, hilarious characters and poignant heart.

'Inside Out' has the Highest Opening Weekend for an Original Movie

Although Inside Out came in number two for the box office weekend totals, It made the large sum of $91 Million, which is the highest grossing opening weekend for a Pixar movie with the exception of Toy Story 3 ($110.3M).  On it's opening night (June 19) it made $34M, and surpassed  the monster hit movie Jurassic World  which grossed just over $29M. Although it couldn't beat Jurassic World's $102M weekend cash-in, Inside Out now has the record for the largest opening weekend of an original, non-sequel movie ever, beating James Cameron's Avatar ($77M).

Inside Out has also received an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and audiences alike. It has a sky high score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the critics consensus praises the film saying:
Inventive, gorgeously animated, and powerfully moving, Inside Out is another outstanding addition to the Pixar library of modern animated classics.

First Look at the Upcoming WALL-E LEGO Set

Back in October of 2013, Pixarian Angus MacLane submitted a WALL-E model to the LEGO Ideas website. This is a site where fans can upload their brick-built creations for future LEGO sets. If the submission receives 10,000 supporters, it goes into the evaluation phase, in which the review team from LEGO decides whether or not the submitted model will become an actual set. This is the same procedure that MacLane's WALL-E creation went through, and it was announced by The LEGO Group last February that they would make the WALL-E model a reality.

Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E) Holding MacLane's LEGO Creation

The toy web-store Smyths recently revealed images of the LEGO WALL-E packaging that most likely pictures the official final version of the set. The LEGO news blog Leg Godt - Play Well mentions that there may be a slim chance the images are fake just to serve as a placeholder on the site until the real images are released, but it's improbable that the toy store would create the image themselves. So, without further ado, here are the images of the upcoming LEGO WALL-E set!

Symths toy store declared that the set will sell for €57.99, which is approximately $65.00 in United States currency, and that the model will be available on December 1st. The site also lists WALL-E's functions:
  • Flexible head and hands can open/close
  • Rotating wheels with tracks
  • Opening torso compartment
  • Suitability 12+

Master Builder Angus MacLane

Angus MacLane has been at Pixar since 1997 and has directed short films BURN-E, Small Fry, and the television special Toy Story of TERROR!  In his spare time, he is an avid LEGO fan and invented a popular style of LEGO creations, which he dubbed CubeDudes. He is currently the co-director of Finding Nemo's sequel, Finding Dory.

Big Changes and New Voices in 'The Good Dinosaur'

Pixar's The Good Dinosaur has gone through countless changes in production. The story was conceived by Pixar veteran Bob Peterson (co-director of Up), and the original release date was scheduled in May of 2014. Since then, Peter Sohn (Partly Cloudy) replaced Peterson as the new director of the movie, and the film will now arrive to theaters this November. Pixar's president Ed Catmull had the following words to say about the changes in The Good Dinosaur.
"Nobody ever remembers the fact that you slipped a film, but they will remember a bad film. Our conclusion was that we were going to give the film some more time."
The Good Dinosaur Concept Art

There have also been major story adjustments in The Good Dinosaur. In the original summary of the film, there is a traumatic event that changes Arlo's (the main dino character) community. In the new synopsis, the event changes Arlo's family instead.
The Good Dinosaur asks the generations-old question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? In theaters November 25, 2015, the film is a humorous and exciting original story about Arlo, a lively Apatosaurus with a big heart. After a traumatic event unsettles Arlo’s family, he sets out on a remarkable journey, gaining an unlikely companion along the way - a human boy. The Good Dinosaur is an extraordinary journey of self-discovery full of thrilling adventure, hilarious characters and poignant heart.

The cast for the movie has also gone through big revisions. Arlo, who was originally played by Lucas Neff, will now be voiced by Raymond Ochoa. Arlo's human companion who is named Spot will be voiced by Jack Bright. Both Ochoa and Bright are young voice actors and are credited for "additional children's voices" on Monsters University. Jeffery Wright (Beetee from The Hunger Games) has replaced John Lithgow as Poppa, Arlo's father, and Momma will still be played by the original casting choice, Frances McDormand. Child star Marcus Scribner (Black-ish) will play Arlo's brother, Buck. The character Buck was originally named Forrest, and was voiced by Bill Hader (the voice of Fear in Pixar's Inside Out). Arlo's two other siblings Cliff (Neil Patrick Harris) and Ivy (Judy Greer) are now completely cut from the film.

Arlo's Siblings Have Been Either Replaced or Cut

There are some Tyrannosaurus Rex's seen in the teaser trailer as well. A.J Buckley voices a T-Rex named Nash, Anna Paquin plays one called Ramsey, and Sam Elliot is the voice of a tenacious T-Rex named Butch. Another voice cast member is Steve Zahn, and he plays a pterodactyl named Thunderclap. The film's composer, which was initially Thomas Newman (Finding Nemo, WALL-E), has been replaced by Mychael Dynna (Life Of Pi). This is Dynna's first time doing the music for a Pixar movie.

Image From The Good Dinosaur Teaser Trailer

This is not the first time there have been director changes or production troubles at Pixar; all this is part of the creative process of the film until it arrives on the big screen. An example of this is when A Bug's Life was completed in the Fall of 1998, and Toy Story 2 was examined by John Lasseter and other directors. It was decided that it needed to be completely re-written. Pixar turned the production of Toy Story 2 upside-down and got the film done in less than a year. This story illustrates one of the great traits of Pixar, the artists there will always choose to do what's best for the story of the film, even if that means completely re-doing, delaying, or working overtime on the movie.

The Good Dinosaur will hit the big screen this November on the 25th.

Still from The Good Dinosaur Teaser

The roles of Arlo the Apatosaurus and Spot (the human boy) are switched in The Good Dinosaur. Spot plays the role of the pet and Arlo is the master. The director of the movie, Peter Sohn explained to Yahoo! Movies:
“Arlo himself is what we would have become, able to articulate and have certain emotions and connection to family. They’ve become us, essentially… I’m trying to treat Spot in a very kind of animalistic way, where he doesn’t speak very much. He’s very feral. The heart of it has always remained the same in terms of the boy and the dog. I’ve been very diligent with the story team to kind of protect that and focus on that more. In terms of the world, it has kind of changed a bit here and there, and some of the characters have gone out and new ones have come in.”
Peter Sohn also crediting the Pixar "braintrust," which is a group of directors at Pixar, for assisting him in directing his first feature film.

Disney Infinity's website describes the Inside Out play set as a "two-player cooperative, puzzle-solving platformer." 'Sanjay's Super Team' Will Play Before 'The Good Dinosaur'

For the first time ever, Pixar will release two feature films in one year. The first one is Pete Docter's Inside Out, which will be in theaters on June 19. The second one is The Good Dinosaur, which is directed by Peter Sohn. The short film to play before The Good Dinosaur was revealed today by The LA Times, and it is titled Sanjay's Super Team.

Concept Art from Sanjay's Super Team

The short film is directed by Sanjay Patel, an animator who has worked at Pixar since 1996 (his first film was A Bug's Life).  Sanjay's Super Team is inspired by his real life experiences growing up with cartoons and comic books, while observing daily Hindu prayers and rituals with his father. Patel explains "My parents' whole world revolved around their gods, the Hindu deities. Our worlds were diametrically apart. I just wanted my name to be Travis, not Sanjay." This conflict was the influence for Sanjay's Super Team.
The seven-minute short begins with young Sanjay watching cartoons and eating cereal in a bland, beige room as his father jingles a bell, beckoning him to join in meditation. Reluctant and bored by the ceremony, Sanjay begins daydreaming a kind of ancient, Hindu version of The Avengers, with the gods appearing like superheroes. As the daydream progresses, the color, light and animation of the film grows increasingly dazzling and cosmic, and Sanjay grows closer to understanding his father's inner world.

Sanjay Patel, Director of Sanjay's Super Team

Sanjay's Super Team is produced Nicole Paradis Grindle (associate producer of Toy Story 3 and Monsters University), and the score is by Mychael Danna (composer for Life of Pi). The short film will premier this year at the Annecy Film Festival and play in theaters on November 25 in front of The Good Dinosaur.

Pixar Is Developing a Pirate Movie

BREAKING: Pixar Animations Studios is currently working on a new original film, The Untitled Pixar Pirate Movie! This surprising news came from an interview with John Lasseter  this past week on NowMovies.com. Lasseter said that even though there a more sequels being made at Pixar then were were in the past, there are still several original movies in the works. He then went on to list such films: Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, a movie about Dia de los Muertos, and a new pirate movie.

"Yarr!"

John Lasseter had more to say on the pirate movie:
"(The pirate film) follows the adventures of Spaniard pirate Lupita Sanchez, her husband Roberto, and their children as they search for a mysterious treasure. It's kind of like The Incredibles, but instead of a superhero family we have a pirate family. Lupita gets a little bored with being a pirate, and wonders if it's really all it's cracked up to be."
Lasseter also happily announced that the film would be directed by Mark Andrews (Brave) and Dan Scanlon (Monsters University), which is not normal for Pixar since they usually have one single director on a project. Nothing more was said about the movie except that they watched animated pirate films like The Pirates! Band of Misfits, The Pirate Fairy, and  Ice Age: Continental Drift for inspiration.

Some of the inspiration for the Pixar pirate movie

Because of the full schedule for upcoming Pixar movies, the earliest we'll see The Untitled Pixar Pirate Movie in theaters would mostly likely be in 2018.

The Co-Director For 'Toy Story 4' Has Been Announced

After the shocking announcement that Toy Story 4 is indeed happening last November, there have been barely any further updates about the film - until now.

In the Variety article, "10 Animators To Watch" it highlights Pixar storyboard artist Josh Cooley. Josh was worked at Pixar since 2006 and the first feature he contributed to was Cars. Since then, he storyboarded for several other movies, as well as directed a few. Josh Cooley was the director of George and AJ, which follows the adventures of the two Shady Oaks Employees from Up, and he has directed a short film which will be included on the Blu-ray for Inside Out.

Josh Cooley's next project at Pixar is being co-director for a continuation of one of the most beloved movie series in the planet, Toy Story 4. Cooley is elated about his new endeavor and said that:
“To be co-director on Toy Story 4 with John, who brought the Toy Story characters to the screen 20 years ago, is a dream come true. When I first saw Toy Story I was amazed by the groundbreaking computer-generated animation. But it was the strong storytelling that kept me coming back. Toy Story 4 will continue that tradition and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it!”
Pixar's Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter is set to direct Toy Story 4 (he was the director of the first two Toy Story films),  and the screenplay will be from writing duo Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. Toy Story 4 will be produced by Pixar veteran Galyn Susman.

Pixar Story Meeting and Co-Director Josh Cooley

New plot details have also been recently revealed  about Toy Story 4. Collider reported that instead of a continuation of the first three films, Toy Story 4 will be it's own separate story. Pixar general manager Jim Morris revealed this tidbit in an interview with Disney Latino (the text below is translated):
"The third movie ended in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy. I think this movie is not part of this trilogy. It is a separate story, which in turn I do not know if will be continued. Never begin a project with that in mind. It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3.Temporarily it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie."
There you have it. Not only is Toy Story 4 a romantic comedy, but apparently it will focus much more on the toys than the humans.

Toy Story 4 Will Allegedly Be A Love Story

Toy Story 4  is set to be released on June 16, 2017.

The official synopsis reads: Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (George Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

There was also a Question & Answer session earlier today with Brad Bird and Producer Damon Lindelof on the Walt Disney Studios Facebook Page. You can read some of the Q&A's below.

Question: The word "Tomorrowland" always reminds me of the older generation of science fiction, and the technology of the 1950's. How inspired were you by old science fiction ideas about where humanity would be in the future?
Brad Bird: I was not inspired by old science fiction as much as I was inspired by how the future used to be seen in contrast to how it's seen today.
Damon Lindelof: You're SMART, Brad Bird!!!

Q: What made you consider and select Hugh Laurie as David Nix?
DL: Hugh was, quite literally, the only actor we considered for the part. We needed someone who could: A. Be very, very smart. B. Be very, very funny. C. Go toe to toe with George as to who is the greatest former TV doctor.

Q:  Because movies seem to take up a lot of your time, do you bring family along with you as work and travel?
BB: My wife goes with me when we shoot. My boys visit whenever they can. On Tomorrowland, our youngest son worked as a PA on the film. So he was there every day during our shoot. Family is key.
DL: I want to be a member of Brad Bird's family.

Q: Do you think the movie as a one time thing or more like a series?  Kind of like Harry Potter and Hogwarts?
BB: I try to see each movie as a standalone thing but the world the movie inhabits as something much larger.

Q:  Can you share with us what was the moment while you worked on the story that you realized, "Yes! Now I feel really good that this movie is working or what I hoped it would be!" I'm curious if it was at the writing stage or while you were working with concept art or doing research that that comfort level and excitement hit you.
DL: That moment came (and went) MANY times over the last four years. When Jeff Jensen and I first started talking about Disney history, particularly Walt's involvement at the 64 World's Fair... that was the first time I felt a tingle of, "Wow. We're tapping into something pretty cool here." I felt it again when Brad started doing pre-viz for some of the insane action sequences in the movie... and AGAIN on the scoring stage just last week as the brilliant Michael Giacchino led a hundred piece orchestra through the music for the movie.

Q:  What was it like to work with George Clooney?
DL: George Clooney is a MONSTER. A handsome, brilliant, talented, highly fun and intensely collaborative monster.

Q:  Brad, you've successfully directed both animated and live-action films. What are some of the differences and similarities in how you approach developing the story in each medium?
BB:  Capturing the right tone. If each film is a creature, this film was a very finicky creature. The line between too much information and not enough was razor thin.

Q: This movie has been so mysterious. How careful should fans be when avoiding spoilers? Lost-level-careful or a slighter Incredibles-level-careful?
BB: Keyword is “careful". Don’t let anyone unwrap presents before Christmas.

Q: I saw your twitter posts about Richard Sherman and I wanted to ask what it was like working with him? Was he there for support or to actually contribute his work to the film?
BB: It was great to have Richard there. Both Michael Giacchino and I are huge fans of his and you might even hear some Sherman Brothers work the movie.

Q: In relation to the film, how do you bring a fresh perspective into your directing? And how do you bring a fresh perspective into your writing?
BB:  I think you do it by getting outside of your head and taking in other influences whether they’re other movies, books, life, paintings. You just try to take new things and the work changes.

Q: Could you please explain the poster a bit? What are they doing in the wheat field? WITHOUT SPOILERS of course.
DL: George is looking at a massive thresher just off to the left of the poster, excited at the prospect of the bundling, milling and baking to come. The little kid on the left is distracted by that shiny, beautiful, inspiring City of The Future in the distance. (you said no spoilers)

Q: If you could make one invention a reality today, what would that be?
DL:  I gotta go with teleportation. Traffic in L.A. was ruthless this morning.

Q: I'm a fan of George's. Why did you choose him as the lead in the first place? Since normally he won't do many Sci-fi films. What does George Clooney have in common with Frank Walker?
BB:  George was our first choice. Luckily he accepted. Integrity is a key part of his persona. The fact that he hasn’t done a lot films like this speaks to that. He only gets involved with things he believes in. That’s also true of Frank Walker the character George plays in Tomorrowland. He’s a great actor and he’s funny.

Q:  Will we see any Disney characters in the movie?
DL:  If you look REALLY carefully, you'll see The White Rabbit from ALICE IN WONDERLAND and THE BIG BAD WOLF from THREE LITTLE PIGS!

Q:  Does the Tomorrowland in the movie reflect some of your thoughts on what our real world of tomorrow will (or should) look like?
BB: Yes it does but hopefully in a light-footed way.

Q:  What Disney Parks attractions influenced/inspired you when creating this movie?
DL:  Brad turned me on to some of the classic Tomorrowland attractions like "Carousel of Progress." The way the future was viewed from the PAST was really intriguing to us.

Q: What was it about Britt Robertson that led to choosing her as your lead and how would you describe her character?
DL: A zillion talented young actors auditioned for Casey, but Britt was the one who most embodied what we were looking for -- a hopefulness and optimism that felt fresh without being corny. Casey is a dreamer... and explorer... a young woman who refuses to accept the status quo. We felt Britt embodied all of the above.

Q: Brad, What convinced you that this was the right script to be your next movie?
BB:  Damon was doing some uncredited writing work on the end of the last movie, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. We started talking about what the other was doing next and it completely sucked me in.

Q: Was an objective of the movie, besides entertaining, to inspire optimism in people about the future?
BB:  I would refrain from making the movie unlike eating your vegetables. I would say it is a counter argument against the current obsessions with dystopia but I would probably rather say it’s just a good time at the movies.
